The annual Nariyama Ayagu traditional song in Miyakojima is scheduled for October, Sunday 4th. Nariyama Ayagu is an emblematic song of the trational song repertory of the island.

Cela faisait presque trois mois que je n’avais pas été à la préfecture de miyakojima. La dernière visite étais pour l’immatriculation de notre nouvelle voiture. À notre arrivée, nous avons eu avec mon épouse l’impression de nous rendre chez la famille. À peine devant les bureaux que déjà trois ou quatre personnes sont venues pour nous dire bonjour, que cela faisait longtemps et après à peine une minute sur place, les différentes personnes en charge des affaires de la ville avaient a tour de rôle notre petite fille dans les bras. Chose totalement impensable à Tokyo ou ailleurs.
indépendamment de cela, la chose la plus amusante est la décoration intérieure du lieu. Oui vous ne rêvez pas, c’est bien une rangée de siège d’avion à l’entrée de la préfecture de miyakojima.
I had not been to Miyakojima City Hall for a good three months. The last visit was when we registered our new car. When we got there the other day, my wife and I felt just as if we were visiting the family. As soon as we stood in front of the poen counters, three or four employees came to say hello, long time not seen. In a blink, there were holding our baby girl in their arms, a scene one would hardly see in Tokyo or elsewhere.
The interior design of the first floor is a must seen. And yes, what you see on the picture is indeed a row of … airplane seats!
Le climat tropical se caractérise, entre autre, par l’absence de saisons. Bien que celle-ci existe, elles ne sont pas vraiment marquées comme en Europe par exemple. La lumière naturelle, fournis par une abondance de soleil toute l’année, ne change pas, en été ou en (hiver), ou plutôt saisons (fraiche).
L’hiver ici correspond à une période comprise entre mi-décembre et fin janvier. Durant cette période fraiche, la température peut descendre à des 24-25 degrés. Par ailleurs, la température de l’eau est paradoxalement plus importante que l’air durant cette période (on se sent bien dans l’eau en hiver).
Vivant ici en permanence et non uniquement durant la période estivale, je continuerais bien sûr a crée des articles et j’essayerais de décrire quels sont les changements en fonction des périodes de l’années.

Sub-tropical climate is characterized, besides other things, by a lack of contrasted seasons. Seasons there are of course, but not as split as in Europe for instance. Natural light dispensed aplenty by a bountiful sun through the year doesn’t change on Summer or (very warm) Winter.
Winter here starts somewhere in the middle of December and ends by the end of January. During that time, the sea temperature may decrease under 24 degrees but is paradoxically higher than the lowest air temperature. Swimming in Winter feels warm.
As I live here all the year, not only during Summer, I will describe over time the climate changes through the year.

A short half-day trip to Irabujima island you have a full view at from Miyakojima Paradise studios. Currently, this island can only be reached by ferry but a bridge now underconstrcution is to be achieved in three years. The ferry trip only cost JPY 400 and you can carry along your bicycle for free. The crossing takes about 25 minutes. The island is pretty empty but natural landscapes and beaches are gorgeous. It’s a good idea to bring a picnic.

We now have French bread baguette at the supermarket. My wife snatched a sample so we could taste it. To say the truth, it was quite nice. With French jam “Bonne Maman” and real butter readily available on the island and our own Nespresso machine, we cannow enjoy a true French breakfast. Now, shall we have regular French breakfasts from now on or not? I don’t know.

Bicycles for rent at this hotel for a whooping JPY2,500 a day! That’s a hefty price. We rent these for less than half this price.

There was a time in the past when Miyakojima was a US island. It is still possible at the supermarket to pay with US dollars.

je voulais m’excuser auprès de tous les lecteurs pour l’absence de post. Je suis vraiment très pris avec mon activité ici sur miyakojima, qui commence à relativement bien prendre forme et je n’ai que très peu de temps, que je consacre à ma femme et à ma fille. La fréquence des articles devrais reprendre en courant de cette semaine. Il fait aussi beau ici en hiver qu’en été, il y a aucune raison de ne pas vous faire profiter de belles photos de plages au mois de decembre par exemple.
A tres tres vite pour de nombreux et frequent post sur ce blog, en francais et bientot en anglais.
Au fait, que voudriez vous voir que vous avez pas lu ici ? que voulez vous voir plus ?

My apologies to readers as I have not been writing much lately. My business here on Miyakojima is grabbing much of my time and is taking nice shapes. The time left I have I give to my wife and my daughter. I should start again writing more regularly this week. Here in Miyakojima, Winter is as nice as Summer. There is no reason why one should not indulge in taking and showing you pictures of beautiful beaches in the middle of December.
